Acting as the shop lead and decision maker, the Shop Supervisor is responsible for the effective supervision and leadership of service department staff to ensure that quality standards, productivity and serviceability requirements are met.

Responsibilities will include the promotion and enforcement of safety, policies, and procedures, as well as the identification and correction of potential work problems and health and safety issues. The Shop Supervisor will prepare a range of reports and hold responsibilities for the effective budgeting in their area. Through the effective management of targets, goals and service efficiencies, the Shop Supervisor will ensure the ongoing success of the shop and meeting the overall business requirements. You will have the ability to assist with troubleshooting major and minor mechanical problems, as well as have the ability to make go/no-go decisions on repairs. This position would be responsible for coordinating Day / Night shifts, ensuring clear communication and daily objectives.

  • Must be flexible with commuting and working out of different Yards.

Shifts: 4x10,s Weekend , Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday

Job Requirements:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of maintenance shop supervisors and Day / Night Staff
  • Maintain and distribute up-to-date service requirement information, establish priorities
  • Instruct subordinates on service best practices, assist with trouble shooting, diagnose defects in truck, trailers, and heavy duty equipment.
  • Review engine / truck / trailer / equipment snags, assess repair values, and make monetary decisions
  • Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair that is required.
  • Check all heavy equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all required time cards and repair paperwork
  • Source and cost effectively requisition parts, materials, and supplies.
  • Ensure completion of shop maintenance and repair work according to established schedules
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to Operations in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Perform ad hoc mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required
  • Perform incidental welding operations on equipment
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Other mechanical repair work as required.

Must be a driven and motivated leader, with the ability to promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and performance. A creative and innovative thinker, with the understanding of the gravity in making business decisions and driving performance from the shop level. Excellent verbal and written communicator, with an elevated level of attention to detail and professionalism.

Work Conditions

  • 24/7 availability may be required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100lb.
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • May be exposed to construction sites.
