BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre are provincial resources for the coordination and delivery of a comprehensive range of specialized patient care services for the sickest newborns, children and youth and the most complex obstetrical cases in British Columbia.

Through the Provincial Health Authority (PHSA), BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre undertook a redevelopment project that ensured sufficient capacity to meet the needs of a growing population and provide facilities that support 21st century healthcare practices.

The Project was completed in three phases. Renovation and Relocation (Phase 1) included construction of the Clinical Support Building which opened in November 2012, three additional beds for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, additional space for the UBC Medical School and construction for a new Child Day Care Centre.

Phase 2, the new Teck Acute Care Centre ( Teck ACC) included Inpatient Units, an Emergency Department, Medical Imaging, Procedural Suites, Hematology/Oncology and Pediatric Intensive Care. It also included a High-Risk Labour and Delivery Suite, and a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit for BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre.

Phase 3 (Renovation, Relocation and Expansion) included the relocation of Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children to the Oak Street campus and expansion of the birthing program for BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre.
